Highlights:
This 8-day self-guided tour takes you through breathtaking limestone plateaus, charming medieval villages, and dramatic river gorges. Hike along panoramic trails, spot majestic vultures soaring above, and explore natural wonders like the Aven Armand cave. Experience the tranquility of Sainte-Enimie, one of France’s most beautiful villages, before gliding through the famous “Détroits” on a scenic canoe trip. With varied routes for all levels, comfortable accommodations, and seamless logistics, this adventure is perfect for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts seeking a mix of challenge and relaxation.
Check in at your hotel. Located at the gateway to the Tarn and Jonte Gorges, where the two rivers meet, the village takes its name from the rosebushes grown by the monks of the Abbey of Aniane, who built the Saint-Sauveur church in 1705. Today, only the church remains of the monastery.
Facing Le Rozier, across the Jonte river, lies the village of Peyreleau in Aveyron, the starting point for the Causse Noir. The village is overlooked by an old tower, the last remnant of its fortified castle.
Today begins with one of the most beautiful hikes in Lozère. The start is fairly demanding, with a steady climb up to the Causse Méjean, but the views are spectacular. First you see the cliffs of the Tarn Gorges, with kayakers and swimmers far below. Then come the cliffs of the Jonte, with their striking rock formations: natural sculptures soared over by the giants of the sky, the vultures.
