Bike Tour: Loire Valley - Cycling around Chitenay - 5 days

Travelling by bicycle is the perfect way to explore the many sites and towns of the renowned Loire Valley. Based in a delightful hotel in the small town of Chitenay, you will discover the surrounding forests, vineyards and medieval towns and the famous chateaux of Cheverny and Chambord. In the evenings, soak up the warm atmosphere of the hotel and garden and sample the excellent local cuisine and wine.

Day 1: Arrival in Chitenay

Day 1:    Arrival in Chitenay

You individually travel to Chitenay. The hotel is situated in the centre of the village where there are 3 or 4 simple shops. If you have rent a bike, it will be ready for your arrival on day 1 or by 9am on Day 2. During your stay 3 dinners are included and you can choose to take your first dinner tonight.

 

Day 2:    Cycling roundtrip around Cheverny

From your base in Chitenay there are 7 different self-guided cycling excursions that you can choose from each day, to explore the neighbouring chateaux, vineyards and forests. You can choosefor example for your first day: a route to Chateau de Cheverny, which allows you to travel cross-country through fields and vineyards and some quaint villages. There is ample time to explore the sumptuously furnished Chateau which inspired Hergé's vision of Marlinspike Hall in the adventures of Tintin.

Challenge : 25 km, 74 m ascent, 77 m descent

 

Day 3:    Cycling roundtrip around Chambord
63 km

Do you want to discover one of the most famous Chateaux of the Loire Valley? Cycle through the rich "Domaine de Chambord" forest, where a stop is essential to visit the most famous and majestic château in the Loire Valley: Château Chambord. In its Renaissance splendour this castle boasts no less than 440 rooms. 

Challenge : 63 km, 174 m ascent, 176 m descent 

 

Day 4:    Cycling roundtrip around Chaumont sur Loire
39 km

Today your destination is Chaumont sur Loire! Passing through the countryside you cycle to the Loire banks at Chaumont sur Loire, where you can visit the picturesque chateau overlooking the river. An annual 'Garden Festival' takes place in its majestic park from Jun-Sep, featuring different interpretations of artistic garden composition based on a common theme.

Challenge : 39 km, 149 m ascent, 148 m descent

 

Day 5:    Departure from Chitenay

Arrival info

The international Paris airports Charles de Gaulle in the North and Orly in the South are served by a large number of scheduled and low cost airlines.They are connected with Paris by metro and bus services. From Paris you can take a train to Blois, see below.

You can get to Blois by train. For time tables and further information look at the website of the SNCF or TER-SNCF  

At the Blois train station, you will need to take a taxi (approx. 25 min to Chitenay), on request.

 

From Paris to Chitenay (approx. 2h15 - 190 km/115 mi). Acces to driving routes see the website ViaMichelin.

If you are driving to the Loire Valley, you can leave your car at the first accommodation’s private car park for the duration of the trip.
